Jindabyne is a new town created after the original settlement was drowned by the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electricity Authority in the late 1960s.

Nestled at the end of Lake Jindabyne (which was completed in 1967 and has a capacity of 689 790 ML) modern day Jindabyne owes its continuing existence to its proximity to the major ski resorts Thredbo and Perisher Blue in the Snowy Mountains and the superb facilities it offers to trout fishermen. Located 61 km from Cooma and 462 km from Sydney it is 991 metres above sea level. It lies below the snowline but is close enough to the Perisher-Blue Cow ski runs to be an ideal accommodation spot for people not wanting to stay in the chalets on the snowfields.

Staying in Jindabyne for many has its benefits, accommodation at a fraction of the cost of Thredbo or Perisher, a wide range of nightlife, restaurants, hotels clubs and pubs plus the option of choosing the daily place to ski and the half hour drive to either resort, Thredbo or Perisher or 15 minutes to the skitube.

Getting There:

Jindabyne is an easy 2 hour drive from Canberra, a 5 hour drive from Sydney or 7 hours from Melbourne with half the distance on freeway and standard roads.
From Canberra follow the Monaro Highway to Cooma. Go straight through Cooma on the Snowy Mountains Highway to Jindabyne.

By Air
Snowy Mountains Airport, Cooma is approximately 1 hour driving time and a 1 hour flight from Sydney Canberra Airport is a 2.5 hour drive from Lake Crackenback Resort and 40 minutes flight from Sydney. Shuttle services meet Sydney flights by arrangement.
