Snowy Mountains snow holidays for skiers and snowboarders

The Snowy Mountains, or as they are affectionately known, “The Snowy’s’, are Australia’s highest ski fields. They are found within Kosciuszko National Park, home to the 2,228-metre Mt Kosciuszko, Australia’s tallest mountain.

Whether you are looking for adventure, fun or just a break from the city madness to breathe in some pure mountain air, the Snowy Mountains caters to your whim. In summer, autumn and spring you can cycle, cave, raft, kayak, horse ride and mountain walks but it’s winter time, when the snow covers the mountains and valleys, that the Snowy Mountain really shines.

On and around the Snowy Mountain ski resorts such as Thredbo and Perisher you can downhill ski, snowboard, night ski, cross-country ski and toboggan. You can even learn to race. Whether you’ve been skiing for years or it’s your first time on the white stuff, each resorts caters for beginners, intermediate and experienced skiers of all ages.

But if you don’t need to be situated right on the slopes and would rather some cheaper accommodation for your ski holiday, you can always stay at the gateways to the ski fields in the towns of Jindabyne, Cooma or Berridale.

You can easily get from Jindabyne to the major ski resorts by car, bus or on the underground Ski tube. The Ski tube takes you close to the ski slopes without having to drive on icy roads with chains or find somewhere to park. As well as great snow accommodation for all budgets, there’s plenty of restaurants, cafés and entertainment options in the pubs and nightclubs.

Both Thredbo and Perisher Blue resorts offer a great range of accommodation and dining options and after dark fun for the night owls.
